Cal Froikin grew up in Chicago, moving to Iowa to earn a BA in Studio Art and Classical Piano from Grinnell College. He spent the time studying digital media and printmaking, including an internship at a fine art screen printing shop in New York. Following a post-baccalaureate fellowship at Grinnell focusing on experimenting within his process, Cal moved back to Chicago. His work investigates the balance between deliberate making and improvisation, focusing on repetition and scale, light and color, movement and space. Cal uses a hybrid of painting and printmaking techniques and a variety of digital/physical tools to compose his images.
